![]() In 3rd person I'm invariably fighting the controls and having to actually stop and think about what I'm trying to do rather than simply doing it as I would in 1st person. It's like asking me to juggle knives while riding a unicycle on my head. I kid you not when I say 3rd person is completely and utterly alien to me. You're not considering 2 critical factors:ġ. You need to be able to see both where you are and where the target is. A good example of all this is why platformer games (or something like PoP) are all quite playable in third, but almost impossible in first. Personal preference aside, third is better for playing a melee game. Melee is about timing distances to intercept in within a plane (read: their moving head and your saber swing). Ranged is about drawing a line to a point. But melee? Depth-perception is critical, and the third-person view allows for triangulation in addition to size comparison. With first, you can only establish depth via relative size comparison. Ranged is only a matter of establishing a clean line between you and your target, so depth doesn't matter. I can see someone finding the first-person view to be more immersive, but better to play in? That's a stretch for me to grasp, because with regard to spatial awareness and interception, depth perception is critical. I have no understanding of how first-person melee would even be playable, as saber-combat isn't about planting a cursor on a pixel from a 180 start it's about accurately determining the spatial relation between you and your target, and ensuring your target lies within your attack range and strike zone at exactly the right moment. In regard to affecting gameplay, I think any other differences are purely preferential, because it seems other than the sight-angle difference, the remaining control 'feel' differences can all be tweaked within control speed/sensitivity settings.īut that's ranged combat. In a shooting game, first-person is obviously optimal because it gives you the best line-of-sight to your target, where third can make you think you have a clean shot when you really don't. While I believe you, this makes absolutely no sense to me. In JA, it now takes little more than 5 seconds to kill any force weilding opponents (aside from bosses and such) in first person, whereas it took me several minutes in 3rd. In JK2, it took me all of 2 minutes to kill Desan in first person whereas it took me roughly 15 minutes in 3rd. Help an old guy out here? - View image here:. To say I hate 3rd person view is like asking does a bear shit in the woods. Ask me to hit a single pixel from a 180 start with a railgun and I can do it 9 out of 10 times in first person, ask me to hit a wall 1 foot in front of me with a handful of yogurt in 3rd person and 6 times out of 7 I'll miss. I'm an old FPS player and 3rd person is completely alien to me for control and accuracy. #Star wars jedi knight ii jedi outcast windowed mod how to#Anyone recall how to go about this? And before someone invariably asks "Why would you want to use 1st person for sabre combat?", it's because I'm infinitely better at it in 1st person. I thought it was cg_thirdperson 0 or something along those lines, but that doesn't do squat. But I can't for the life of me remember how to go about doing it - View image here:. After mucking about for a half hour, I once again find myself absolutely HATING 3rd person controls and distinctly recall there being a way to force (no pun intended - View image here: -) first person view only in the game regardless of whether you have the lightsabre out or not. So after watching that Knights of the Force trailer, I figured I'd reinstall JA and play through it again just to get reaquianted with the game while I wait for it to get released. ![]()
